Growth Form: Scandent to decumbent lianas.

Stems: Stems ca. 10–30 dm long, antrorsely puberulent.

Roots:

Leaves: Leaves simple. Opposite. Blades oblong–elliptic to ovate or oblong–ovate, 7.5–15 cm long, 2–6.6 cm wide. Apex acute. Base cuneate. Surfaces glabrate except lower surfaces occasionally sparsely puberulent on margins or veins. Margins serrate, occasionally remotely so. Petioles 2–5 cm long, glabrous or with a few scattered hairs. Stipules absent.

Flowers: Flowers 6–14 per verticillaster, in unbranched, elongate, terminal, racemose inflorescences up to 20 cm long, pedicels 25–40 mm long, glabrous or with a few hairs at base, bracts ovate to elliptic, 7–21 mm long, usually sparsely ciliate, lowermost pair larger, 11–50 mm long Flowers 1–14 or rarely more per verticillaster, on short or elongate pedicels, rarely these on a common peduncle, arranged in terminal, bracteate, racemose inflorescences on the main and lateral stems, either simple and unbranched or compound, formed by the principal inflorescence flanked by smaller secondary or even tertiary, lateral, racemose inflorescences. Calyx narrowly obconical, ca. 6–8 mm long at anthesis, enlarging in fruit, nerves inconspicuous, glabrous, usually 5-toothed, the teeth deltate, unequally divided, ca. 2–3 mm long, apex rounded to obtuse, usually ciliate, splitting longitudinally, usually persistent or sometimes only ventral 1/2 persistent. Corolla bilabiate, white, upper lip dark rose, tube narrowly funnelform, 18–20 mm long, sparsely villous on dorsal surface, upper lip ca. 6 mm long entire or 2-lobed, ciliate, lower lip ca. 12–15 mm long, 3-lobed, lateral lobes ovate, slightly asymmetrical, lower lobe broadly ovate to suborbicular, slightly folded to form a groove, margins somewhat undulate, apex emarginate or entire; nectary disk often present at base of ovary, annular or developed on anterior side only. Stamens 4, both pairs of similar length or upper pair slightly longer, ascending the upper corolla lip, included, aligned with the sinuses; filaments inserted near throat, usually pubescent; anthers dithecal, opening by longitudinal slits; anther sacs divaricate. Ovary superior, 2-carpellate, placentation basal-axile; ovules 1 per ovary lobe; style 1, included, arising between lobes, shortly 2-lobed, the lobes clavate; stigmatic only at apex, 1 lobe often rudimentary; stigmas 2.

Fruit: Nutlets ca. 6–7 mm long. Seeds with endosperm absent or scanty and oily.
